What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a gentle hands-on approach used to diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions with the aim to restore and maintain both physical and psychosocial well-being. Osteopathy can also complement other medical interventions and osteopaths often work in conjunction with other health professionals to give you the best possible care.

Your visit
What to expect

Case history and Examination

During your initial visit we will discuss your symptoms and injuries in depth, as well as taking a thorough medical history. A physical examination will then be carried out with your consent to assess your posture and mobility. You may be asked to undress to your underwear so that we are able to examine the problematic areas. Please let your osteopath know if you are uncomfortable undressing; it may be advisable to bring loose fitting clothing such as shorts and t-shirt.

Diagnosis and Treatment

A diagnosis and specifically tailored treatment plan will be made and discussed with you. Osteopaths use gentle techniques including joint mobilisations, manipulations, massage and stretching of muscles. We are fully qualified and insured to provide medical acupuncture, which can also be incorporated into your treatment.

Aftercare, referral and injury prevention

Your osteopath may provide you with aftercare, lifestyle and exercise advice with the aim to assist your recovery and prevent re-occurrence of injury. If we feel that osteopathic care is not the best treatment for you then you may be referred to your GP or other healthcare professionals.
